Spring 2024

Dear Friend of the Council for Children,

We hope this letter finds you well. We’re writing to you today to give you an update on the Council for Children’s progress in helping local families in need as well as to ask for your help as move forward.

During the 41 years since its inception, the Council for Children has maintained its mission of finding areas in our community where children and parents need support, and finding ways to help fill that need through one of our programs:

·        Christmas is for Kids fills Christmas wishes 1000 local children and in many cases gives additional support to local families through food gift cards and other targeted help.

·        Daycare Scholarships gives up to 10 scholarships per year at $300 per family who get no other type of help.

·        Nicky O Foundation gives scholarships to children interested in the arts, music and theater in memory of the youngest victim of the Station Nightclub fire.

·        Back-to-school and summer camp backpacks are given to 150-200 town Park and Rec Departments each year to be distributed to children who need them.

·        10,000+ servings of food are collected for local food programs to feed children all year, but especially over the summer via the summer playground lunch programs.

The Council for Children has bounced around through several donated spaces, thanks to the generosity of local service groups, business owners and the city of Attleboro. Our current home in North Attleboro at the Emerald Square Mall is workable but not a long term solution.

In 2019, we assessed our options, did a formal feasibility study and worked with local realtors, culminating in a land purchase on John Dietsch Blvd in North Attleboro, which is owned mortgage-free. By the end of 2021, all the town boards had approved the plans for a 22,000 square foot building that would bring several non-profits under one roof. Based on recent concerns of non-profits in our area, all needing workable space, it is more important than ever that this building come to fruition quickly.

The hard work to bring this vision to a reality continues as we move ahead with a Capital Campaign to raise money for the building that will host our program and better help the communities we serve. On Saturday, September 7, 2024, we are hosting our 3rd annual fundraising Gala, at Lake Pearl in Wrentham. We hope that you will celebrate with us at the gala, and consider donating an item or gift card that can be raffled or auctioned off. We have also enclosed the sponsorship levels and ad pricing for our Gala program which gives businesses opportunities for greater visibility and discounted tickets. All sponsorships are requested before August 1st. Donations of gift cards or checks can be mailed to:                         Greater Attleboro Area Council for Children
